Air New Zealand airline has increased its stake in the composition airline Virgin Australia to 25.9 per cent. This is the highest number of shares permitted by the Australian foreign investment review board (FIRB).
Besides owned by Air New Zealand, Virgin Australia shares are also owned by Singapore Airlines at 22.17 percent and 21.24 percent of Etihad Airways, while Virgin Group founder Richard Branson has a stake of 10 percent. Previously Richard Branson to sell their shares to Singapore Airlines and Etihad Airways, but now it is not certain whether he was offered the sale of its shares to Air New Zealand as part of this latest purchase.
Virgin Australia's shares increased after competitors, Qantas, announced it would not add new capacity during the first three months of the financial year 2015, allowing airline ticket prices in Australia increased again.
