India's national airline, Air India, will join the global airline alliance Star Alliance, and will officially be a member of the largest airline alliance in the world that began July 11, 2014.
Air India first announced it would join the Star Alliance in 2007 and the process will be completed in 2010. However, the plan did not go smoothly as Air India failed to meet the minimum requirements made by the Star Alliance so the process was discontinued in 2011. Process for the inauguration be a member of Star Alliance finally started back at the end of last year.
On 23 June, the head of the Star Alliance have met with representatives of Air India in London and the meeting agreed on Air India as a member of the 27th Star Alliance. Peresmina Air India as a member of the 27th Star Alliance will be held on July 11, 2014.
